The study, based on a corpus of sources, a significant part of which is introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, shows that the "foundation holiday" of the Soviet state - November 7 - was born not only as a result of the efforts of cultural figures and the ideological manipulations of the Bolshevik Party. During the years of the Civil War, the main Soviet holiday was a space for the clash of various political forces, a power resource for which a struggle unfolded. Various groups within the ruling party, opponents and open enemies of the Bolsheviks, prominent cultural figures used this holiday for their own purposes, lobbying for certain political interests.
The study of the holiday from the standpoint of new political history allows us to better understand the specifics of the political struggle of the revolutionary era, and to analyze some features of the political culture that was consolidated and developed during the global crisis of the "epoch of wars and revolutions".
