The purpose of his book, Lieutenant-General Modest Ivanovich Bogdanovich (1805–1882), was to create a reliable picture of Russia's participation in the campaign of 1813 and show its role in the alignment of forces in Europe and in the final victory of the Allied forces, since the political and military events described in foreign publications , were not complete and historically reliable. Paying tribute to German historical literature, the author carefully wrote in the preface: "But, with all the dignity of German writings, in many of them there is a desire to hide the importance of Russian influence in the liberation of Germany." The Russian troops throughout 1813 endured the greatest hardships of military failures on their shoulders and were the main cementing beginning that made it possible to achieve resounding victories. The Russians formed the backbone of all four armies of the allies, and the activities of Russian diplomacy (primarily Emperor Alexander I) contributed from the very beginning to the creation, and then to the rallying and expansion of the coalition forces. The conclusions that can be drawn upon reading unequivocally spoke of the enormous and key role of Russia in 1813, in particular in the liberation of all of Germany from Napoleonic domination.
