Al-Andalus - Muslim Spain - occupies a special place in the history of mankind. On the one hand, al-Andalus was part of the vast world of Islam, on the other hand, it existed in close contact with its European neighbors, was the largest educational center and served as a channel through which elements of a higher Arab culture at that time penetrated into Europe. Book W.M. Watta and P. Kakia tells about the Muslim conquest of Spain at the beginning of the 1492th century, about the establishment here by the descendants of the Umayyads of the prosperous Cordoba Caliphate, about the collapse of Arab rule and the seizure of power by the North African Berber dynasties, finally about the Reconquista and the fall in XNUMX of the Emirate of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold on Iberian Peninsula.
William Montgomery Watt (1909-2006) and Pierre Kaquia (1921-2017) were British orientalists. The leading role in their duet was played by U.M. Watt, Professor of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at the University of Edinburgh, author of works on the history, philosophy and culture of Islam.
