Sergei Yesenin (1895–1925) was born into a peasant family in the village of Konstantinov, Ryazan province. He began writing poetry at the age of nine. At eighteen he sent them to the editors and, according to him, was surprised that his works were not published. Then he "bursted" in St. Petersburg, went straight to Blok, who liked the fresh, "vociferous" poems of a talented nugget poet very much. Soon all-Russian fame came to Yesenin. After the revolution, only Mayakovsky could be compared in popularity with Yesenin, nevertheless, “the last poet of the village” felt like a stranger in the country of the Soviets. He passed away young, at the peak of his creative powers. The circumstances of Yesenin's tragic fate can no longer be separated from the myths, but his heartfelt lyrics still touch with their confessional sincerity and purity. This edition presents selected poems and poems by Sergei Yesenin.
