Most of us complain that there aren't enough hours in the day and our inboxes are full of emails. This common perception that life is faster than it used to be has become ingrained in our culture, with smartphones and the internet being blamed for it. But isn't that the main purpose of a smartphone - to give us such quick access to people and information so that we have free time for other things? Shouldn't technology make our lives easier? In her book Running Out of Time, Judy Weissman explains why we perceive our digital experience as an inexorable acceleration of everyday life, and also argues that we are not mere hostages of communication devices, but the feeling that we always need something somewhere. to hurry is a consequence of the priorities and parameters that we set ourselves, and not the machines that help us set them. The author explores how different groups in modern societies use time differently and shows how changes in employment, family organization and parenting affect the perception of time. In 2017, the book was awarded the Ludwig Fleck, presented by the Society for the Social Research of Science.
