Vladimir Vladimirovich Mirsky (1920-1998) taught Russian folklore and ancient Russian literature at the Latvian State University for many years; professor, author of textbooks and scientific articles. In the last years of his life he lectured at the Riga Theological Seminary of the Latvian Orthodox Church. Known in Latvia and the rest of the former Soviet Union as a poet and translator, creator of the autobiographical prose Mother's Prayer, or Bitter and Sweet Fruits. This collection of poems by V. V. Mirsky and his poetic translations is the most complete: it includes works from two collections - "On Faith, Russia, Soul" (1991) and "Steps" (1998), published in Riga by the Russian Cultural Center "Beehive ”, as well as translations of Latvian dains and songs. Poetic dedications to relatives and friends of the poet are provided for this publication from the family archive. The poems are printed in accordance with the spelling of the author's originals and in chronological order, with the exception of some where the date or year of creation has not been established. The publication of this collection of works by Vladimir Vladimirovich Mirsky will contribute not only to the popularization of his work, but also to the preservation of his name among the prominent figures of Russian culture in Latvia. Thanks to the bright poetic dedications and comments to them at the end of the book, a wide circle of his entourage emerges from the most worthy representatives of the Russian intelligentsia of his time.
