Valery Mikhailovich Levitsky (1886-1946) - one of the leaders of the Kiev City Committee of the Cadet Party, an active member of the political group headed by V. V. Shulgin and P. B. Struve, editor of the Great Russia newspaper. During the years of the revolution and the Civil War, he managed to visit many cities: Kiev, Petrograd, Moscow, Zhitomir, Odessa, Yekaterinodar, Rostov-on-Don, Novorossiysk, Feodosia, Sevastopol.
His book, published in full for the first time, describes both the everyday life of the inhabitants of the South of Russia and the mood of the party-political circles and officers of the White Army. According to the apt expression of V. V. Shulgin, this is a kind of “revolutionary tourist’s notebook”. The publication is intended both for specialists and for a wide range of readers interested in the history of the Civil War.
