Lydia Perez owns a small bookstore in the Mexican city of Acapulco, where she lives with her husband Sebastian, a journalist, and eight-year-old son Luca. After publication
in the newspaper of the material prepared by Sebastian, exposing the local drug cartel, the bandits arrange a bloody massacre in which all the relatives and friends of Lydia are killed - sixteen people. Only she and Luka miraculously survive. Realizing that they are being hunted, mother and son flee from Acapulco. Saving their lives, they head north to the border with the United States. And soon they realize that the nightmare they experienced is only the beginning: the road to a new life will require truly inhuman efforts from them.
