Guy Julius Caesar (100-44 BC), with whose reign the last years of the Roman Republic are connected, became famous not only as a brilliant politician and decisive commander, capable of crossing any Rubicon. His name, which served as the name of the new Julian calendar, was turned into the title of the Roman emperors; subsequently, the Russian words "tsar", "caesar" and the German "kaiser" came from him. Caesar went down in history as the greatest Roman writer. The creative heritage of this great ruler is an outstanding achievement of Latin prose. His notes on the Gallic War, which successfully influenced the formation of public opinion, are of great historical value. No wonder another famous Roman - the great orator Cicero - gave such an assessment to the "Notes of Caesar": "They are naked, straight and beautiful, all ornaments of speech have been removed from them, like clothes ... There is nothing more pleasant for history than pure and pleasant brevity."
