The book by the Danish writer and philosopher Willy Sørensen (1929-2001) unfolds an impressively sweeping picture of the universe as it seemed to the ancient Scandinavians. The author uses traditional mythological stories known from the Elder and Younger Eddas, but interprets them in his own way. He calls on his contemporaries to do something that is both simple and complex, but the only possible and necessary thing - to preserve peace in every sense of the word.
By the time the book “Ragnarok” was published, Sørensen had already established himself as a serious prose writer, the author of several collections of short stories in the spirit of absurdism and a number of serious literary and philosophical works, including a collection of essays on literature and folklore “Poets and Demons” ( 1959), as well as books on Søren Kierkegaard (1961), Friedrich Nietzsche (1963), Franz Kafka (1968), Arthur Schopenhauer (1969) and Seneca (1976). The writer is the winner of many literary awards: the Grand Prize of the Danish Academy (1962), the Nordic Council Literary Prize (1974), the H. C. Andersen Prize (1983) and the Swedish Academy Literary Prize (1986), which is also called the Small Nobel Prize. The book "Ragnarok" has been translated into major European languages.
