Edvard Munch (1863-1944) is an outstanding Norwegian artist, known far beyond the borders of his homeland. He is familiar to the Russian public primarily from the paintings "The Scream", "Madonna", "Sick Child" and "Girls on the Bridge". However, he considered the symbolist series of paintings “The Frieze of Life”, on which he worked for several decades, to be the true pinnacle of his work. This series has a parallel embodiment in the form of literary texts, a selection of which is published in this edition. Munch is not only one of the most recognizable artists of his time, but also the author of unique texts: literary diaries, memoirs, an unfinished novel, philosophical reflections on life and art, aphorisms and journalistic texts, as well as a huge number of letters corresponding to his wide circle of contacts.
The book includes a selection of the most curious and significant texts created by the artist during his life. Most of them are published in Russian for the first time.
