The practical Ford bypassed the theorist Marx by building socialism in one single company. When the whole world was seething in red fever, there was not a single strike in its factories: an eight-hour work day and a minimum wage of $5 a day were approved as the main policy of the company as early as 1914. The constant reduction in car prices with a regular increase in staff salaries - this is the real political economy of Henry Ford, proven by his many years of practice in various parts of the world.
The first book by a talented American manager, My Life and Work, was translated into Russian in 1924 and reprinted nine times in the USSR over the next three years. It was used as an additional manual for the organization of labor by many business leaders. However, a couple of years later, the “fashion for Ford” had to be curtailed, because his second book, “Today and Tomorrow” (Today And Tomorrow), exposed the inefficiency of Soviet production at that time.
